Augusta, GA – Officer Involved in Fatal Car Accident at GA-56 & Moore Rd
Augusta, GA (August 12, 2021) – Before 9 p.m. on Wednesday night, August 11, a fatal car accident occurred at an intersection in Augusta.
According to Richmond County officials, the accident happened at the intersection of GA-56 and Moore Road. A 34-year-old woman was traveling north on the roadway when she made a left turn at the intersection. This is when her vehicle collided with a patrol cruiser that was responding to a call.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The woman was taken to Augusta University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead due to serious injuries. The deputy involved in the crash was hospitalized with injuries but is expected to be okay.
The roadway was blocked at the intersection for a period of time.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
