Augusta, GA – Fatal Drowning Accident Reported on Phinizy Pond at Gravel Pit Rd
Augusta, GA (August 7, 2021) – A drowning incident involving one victim was reported on Saturday afternoon, August 7, in the Richmond County area.
Deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene at Phinizy Pond near Gravel Pit Road investigating the drowning incident.
Initial reports state that a group of adult kayakers were on the water at Phinizy Pond when one of the adults fell in and could not be located after some time.
The search for the body was slated to resume on Sunday.
Officers did not say if the kayakers were doing a paid activity through a local company or if they were on the water on their own. It’s also unclear if any other victims sustained injuries, though EMS units were dispatched to evaluate those involved.
No further details have been released but the investigation is ongoing.
