Augusta, GA – Man Killed in Fatal Car Crash Involving Chase on Old Savannah Rd
Augusta, GA (August 27, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal car accident that took place at an intersection in Augusta on Friday night, August 26, following a chase.
Georgia State Patrol officials confirmed that the accident happened before 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Old Savannah Road and Roselle Street. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office initiated a pursuit around the area and a vehicle was traveling at high speeds. The speeding vehicle went through the intersection and collided with a second vehicle being driven by a 28-year-old man.
Several local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The victim had to be rescued from his vehicle by fire crews. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries at 9:40 p.m. The other driver who initiated the police chase was hospitalized but is expected to recover.
The roadway was blocked at the intersection for an extended period of time as police worked to clear the scene.
