Atlanta, GA – Police Officer Injured in Serious Pedestrian Accident on Jonesboro Rd
Atlanta, GA (December 6, 2022) – A police officer sustained critical injuries in a pedestrian accident that took place on a roadway in Atlanta on Tuesday morning, December 6.
According to local officials, the accident happened after midnight at 3800 Jonesboro Road around the area of the Exxon Gas Station in the area. Police discovered that a man was threatening a woman with a gun and responded to the disturbance call. Officers attempted to speak with the 36-year-old man, who took off running into nearby woods. As officers swarmed the area, the man ran into a city street and an officer followed.
Police claim that several vehicles saw the incident and stopped in the area so that the officer could make an arrest. However, a drunk driver drove around the stopped vehicles and collided with the suspect and the officer.
Several responders, including Atlanta paramedics and fire crews, were rushed to the scene to help those in need. The officer sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. He has since been listed in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital. The suspect also sustained injuries but is expected to face a full recovery.
The suspect who ran into traffic has been charged with obstruction, running into the roadway as a pedestrian, and more. The driver who struck the officer is now facing DUI charges.
