Atlanta, GA – Police Officer Injured in Pedestrian Accident on I-20
Atlanta, GA (June 5, 2021) – At 4:45 a.m. on the morning of Saturday, June 5, a police officer was injured in a pedestrian accident in Atlanta.
According to officials, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-20 around the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The officer was getting out of his cruiser to help a driver who was stranded with a broken-down vehicle. A black sedan traveling through the area did not see the police cruiser in time and rear-ended the cruiser, then striking the police officer.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene. The police officer, as well as the driver of the black sedan, were taken to the hospital with a variety of injuries. The police officer is in serious condition.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked for two hours until police cleared the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
