Atlanta, GA – One Killed in Wrong-Way Collision on Downtown Connector
Atlanta, GA (October 3, 2022) – One person was killed and several others were injured in a wrong-way collision that took place on a highway in Atlanta on Monday morning, October 3.
According to Atlanta Police, the accident happened in the early morning hours on the Downtown Connector around the area of North Avenue after 5 a.m. A driver allegedly got on the Interstate headed in the wrong direction when they collided with a vehicle that was headed in the opposite direction. The vehicles collided and then a third vehicle became involved in the accident. All of the involved vehicles were badly damaged as a result of the crash.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. One person, who has not yet been formally identified, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Two other parties sustained injuries in the accident and were hospitalized. Their conditions are not yet known.
Due to the severity of the accident, all southbound lanes were blocked for some time. The road was reopened around 6 a.m.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the collision continues.
