Athens, GA – Several Injured in House Floor Collapse at Magnolia Bluff Dr & UGA
Athens, GA (April 24, 2021) – A massive house party led to a floor collapse, causing several serious injuries, early Friday morning, April 23.
Rescue units with Athens-Clarke County Fire responded to the house, located on Magnolia Bluff Drive near the University of Georgia, around 1:00 a.m. The response was upgraded to include an Engine, Rescue truck, and Battalion Chief.
Officers with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department were also dispatched and worked to remove victims from within the structure, a two-story house over a higher crawl space.
Initial reports state that a majority of the first floor collapsed into the crawl space beneath the weight of the party.
Fire crews and medical teams treated around 25 people at the scene and they sustained a variety of injuries, including cuts and broken bones. Paramedics said no patients were transported by EMS, however, with most driving themselves or getting a ride to local area medical centers.
Code enforcement officials were also contacted regarding whether the property should be condemned. The incident remains under investigation.
