Athens, GA – Passenger Critically Injured in Car Accident on Athens Perimeter
Athens, GA (August 23, 2021) – Around 7 p.m. on the evening of Sunday, August 22, a passenger was critically injured in a car accident in Athens.
According to Atlanta Police, the accident happened on the Athens Perimeter around the area of the Atlanta Highway. The driver of a Chevrolet Tracker was speeding in the area when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a guardrail, and flipped over. The vehicle involved in the accident was badly damaged as a result.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The passenger in the front seat of the vehicle, identified as a 29-year-old man, was critically injured and taken to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 29-year-old from Loganville, was hospitalized with less severe injuries.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked for a period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident continues at this time.
