Athens, GA – Man Killed in Pedestrian Accident on Jefferson Rd
Athens, GA (September 27, 2021) – At 12:09 a.m. on Monday morning, September 27, a man was killed in a pedestrian accident in Athens.
According to Athens-Clarke Police, the accident happened on Jefferson Road around the area of Oak Grove Road. A 32-year-old man from Winder was walking alongside the road when he was allegedly struck by a 2013 Honda Civic. The driver of the Civic remained at the scene. Police confirmed that the pedestrian was walking near the southbound lanes when he was struck.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. The pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. The driver of the Honda, identified as a 29-year-old man, was injured. His passenger, a 28-year-old, was also injured and hospitalized.
The roadway was blocked in the area until police were able to fully clear the scene. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
