Athens, GA – Man Injured in Bicycle Accident on Baxter St
Athens, GA (August 19, 2021) – At 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18, a man was injured in a bicycle accident on a roadway in Athens.
According to the University of Georgia Police Department, the accident happened on Baxter Street around the area of Hull Street. A bicyclist was traveling in the area when he was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle. Police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle immediately fled the scene without stopping.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The bicyclist, who has only been identified as an adult male, was the only person injured in the accident. The extent of his injuries is not yet known.
The roadway was blocked for approximately one hour as police worked to clear the scene. Police have not yet said if they found the driver responsible for the accident.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
