albany gaIf you have been to Albany GA, then you probably know that it is one of the most beautiful communities in Georgia and also one of the most popular cities for local vacationers. Located on the shores of the Flint River, this beautiful residential and commercial center hosts dozens of events every year. These events are meant to enhance cultural diversity as well as entertain and educate the people of the city.

If you would love to attend one of the local annual events in Albany during your next visit to this merry city, below is a detailed list of annual events to choose from:

The Albany Marathon

Every first week of March, the otherwise quiet city of Albany turns into a bustling metropolis as hundreds of runners, tourists and curious onlookers flock the city to witness one of the largest regional marathons in the South: The Albany Marathon. While the half marathon might be merely a way of taking part in the event or staying competitive, the full marathon serves as one of the leading Boston Marathon qualifiers. The event is organized by Snickers which explains the nickname Albany Snickers Marathon.

Albany Mardi Gras Street festival

This beautiful cultural festival goes hand in hand with the Albany Marathon. After the marathon, the people retreat to the downtown area to participate in the Mardi Gras Street Festival, one of the largest street festivals in the city. This family-friendly event features vendor, games, tasty southern delicacies, live entertainment, a kid’s fun zone, and a pet parade.

Fall Festival

Nothing goes well with the beautiful fall weather than a full day of family fun and merry-making in the park which is exactly what the Albany Fall Festival has to offer. The festival features all kinds of fun activities including a cornhole tournament, bouncing castles, a movie in the park, live music and vendors. The food department also brings its A-game with the menu featuring everything from pulled pork, and baked beans to tasty ribs and mac & cheese.

SeaFood Festival

For the foodies in town and pretty much anyone who would love a taste of Albany’s finest seafood, the SeaFood Festival has got you covered. This October event features an affordable all-you-can-eat ticket which allows you to taste every dish prepared at the event and eat as much as your stomach can carry. Some of the foods that dominate this festival include shrimp, snow crabs, eggs, sausages, and corn. The Albany SeaFood Festival offers a real taste of southern hospitality.

The city also hosts a lot of one-time events which may not be as popular as the annual events but offer lots of interesting activities for the whole family.
