Acworth, GA – One Killed in Fatal DUI Accident on Dallas Acworth Hwy
Acworth, GA (January 3, 2022) – Around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, January 1, a fatal DUI accident occurred on a highway in Acworth.
According to Cobb County officials, the accident happened on Dallas Acworth Highway around the area of Autumn View Drive. Police confirmed that a 30-year-old man was driving south with a 22-year-old female passenger. He attempted to pass another vehicle driven by a 22-year-old man. However, in doing so, the first vehicle slammed into another vehicle driven by a 30-year-old man. The vehicles stopped on the highway and were extensively damaged as a result.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The 30-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. The driver and passenger in the initial passing vehicle were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Police confirmed that the initial 30-year-old driver received charges for the accident. These include first-degree vehicular homicide, DUI, and improper passing.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
