Augusta, GA (June 4, 2021) – A child died on Friday afternoon, June 4, after sustaining serious injuries in a car wreck that occurred on Tuesday evening.

Deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shopping center on Windsor Springs Road after receiving calls of a crash, as well as shots fired.

The child was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the accident, which occurred around 9:00 p.m. on the Bobby Jones Expressway at Wrightsboro Road.

The 19-month-old boy was taken to Augusta University Medical Center by EMS for treatment of critical injuries and died three days after the wreck. Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen is now investigating the child’s death.

Police are still looking into the circumstances leading to the collision. It’s unclear if any other victims sustained injuries in the crash.
