DePuy Hip Replacement Recall
The law offices of Kenneth S nugnet, P.C. is accepting personal injury cases against Johnson & Johnson and their DePuy Orthopedics subsidiary. August 2010, it was announced that DePuy, manufacturer of the ASR and ASR XL hip systems, was recalling their implants.
Which DePuy systems are being recalled
The Hip Replacement systems that have been recalled include the DePuy ASR XL Acetabular System and the DePuy ASR Hip Resurfacing System. There are and estimated 93,000 patients that will be affected by this recall. During a recent study it was confirmed that patients of these systems experienced a high rate of revision surgery, well above the expected rate.
Patients requiring the revision surgery complained of a variety of symptoms, including pain, swelling and problems walking. Although these are common complaints with any hip replacement surgery the frequency of returned visits, to seek medical attention, can be an indication of a bigger problem.
More serious complaints included:
- Dislocation — when the implant’s two moving parts fall out of alignment
- Fracture — the bones around the implant become broken
- Loosening — when the implant is no longer attached correctly to the bone
It is important to contact your orthopedic surgeon or primary care physician to learn if your implant is a DePuy ASR hip implant.
