Kenneth S. Nugent, P.C. and LexisNexis Team-Up for Atlanta ALS Walk
Employees of LexisNexis and their families recently joined the Ken Nugent Team for the annual Walk to Defeat ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). The fundraiser was held on Saturday, November 6, and included a 5K walk starting from beautiful Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta.
Although temperatures hovered around freezing, the Nugent Team finished the walk in an impressive 45 minutes. But more important was the contribution that the team made to finding a cure for a disease that claims the lives of more than 5,000 Americans each year.
“The ALS Walk was a terrific way to contribute both financial and awareness support that will help reduce the number of families impacted by this disease” said Kenneth S. Nugent Marketing Director, Tim Derrickson. “I felt honored to have members of our firm and LexisNexis join together to support a very worthwhile cause.”
ALS, which stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive, fatal, neurodegenerative disease. Eventually most people with ALS are not able to stand or walk, get in or out of bed on their own, use their hands and arms, or communicate. In later stages of the disease, individuals have difficulty breathing as the muscles of the respiratory system weaken. Most people with ALS die from respiratory failure, usually within 3 to 5 years from the onset of symptoms.
Matt Starosciak, a member of LexisNexis’ sales division said, “It was really a positive experience for everyone that took part. One of my daughter’s classmates just lost her father to ALS. She was there walking in his honor, so it brought home just how important it is to find a cure.”
